Upon completion of the courses listed below, you may meet the coursework requirements for one of the following credentials:
- Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Mild to Moderate Support Needs
- Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Extensive Support Needs
- Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential and Education Specialist Credential in Mild to Moderate Support Needs (Dual Credential)
Foundations Courses - Semester 1
- Foundations of Teaching (3 units)
- Teaching and Learning (3 units)
- Teaching English Learners (3 units)
- Child Development and Inclusive Environments (3 units)
Candidates demonstrating fulfillment of specific credential requirements, including subject matter, and completion of the Foundation courses are eligible to enroll in the following courses:
Methods Courses - Semester 2
- Educating Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (3 units)
- Assessment, Instruction and Development of the IEP (3 units)
- Literacy and Language in Diverse Classrooms (3 units)
- Introduction to Clinical Practice in Mild to Moderate Support Needs (3 units)
Clinical Practice - Semester 3
- Planning and Instruction for Content Standards (3 units)
- Positive Behavior Supports and Collaboration (3 units)
- Supporting Students with Mild to Moderate Support Needs (3 units)
- Final Clinical Practice in Mild to Moderate Support Needs (6 units)

Simultaneously obtain two preliminary teaching credentials — Multiple Subject and Education Specialist in MMSN — in just 48 units! Candidates with both credentials will be equipped to teach all subjects in elementary schools and support students with MMSN from kindergarten through age 22.

- Final Clinical Practice in MS & MMSN (9 units)*
M.S. in Special Education degree option
After obtaining your credential through one of the credential programs listed above, you can complete a Master of Science (M.S.) in Special Education degree with only3 additional courses, which helps with salary growth (close to 50% of all California public school teachers hold a master's degree).​

Seeking an Additional Credential in Education Specialist
Those who hold a valid California teaching credential can obtain an additional credential: Education Specialist in Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) or Extensive Support Needs (ESN).
